BMW Overtakes Audi and Mercedes-Benz Selling Cars 1

German luxury car manufacturer, Bayerische Motooren Werke (BMW), today announced its sales in various parts of the world throughout June, which has exceeded Audi AG and Mercedes-Benz. BMW statement said, in the sixth month that it posted sales of 134,432 units.

“The number of sales increased 12.3 percent compared to June 2010,” the press release as reported autoevolution.com BMW July 8, 2011. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz recorded sales of 120,510 units. That number increased 6.4 percent over the same period last year. As for Audi AG, which is the strongest competitor of BMW, sold only 117,650 units.

BMW sales skyrocketing throughout June is sustained by sales of the BMW 5 Series and variants Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) BMW X3. “The sales during the June show continued increase in global demand for BMW products,” said Ian Robertson, Director of Marketing and Sales of BMW.

He said that overall the BMW Group – which consists of the brands BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce – in June, posted sales of 165,885 units. That figure is up 15.9 percent over sales in June 2010. While sales in the global market specifically the BMW brand, said Robertson, during the first half of 2011, reaching 149,786 units. “The number was up 10.6 percent over the first half of last year,” he said.
