2011 Mercedes R Class – First-Class Comfort and Safety
August 29, 2011 - Category Mercedes-Benz
With the versatility of an SUV and the refined manners of a luxury sedan, the R-Class is like no other vehicle on the road. Three rows of seating offer first-class comfort and best-in-class safety. Class-leading performance rewards the driver even more. Sleek, spacious and smooth, it’s a great leap in innovation, delivered in the lap of luxury.
Both the new 302-hp Direct Injection gasoline V-6 and the advanced clean-diesel BlueTEC V-6 [*1][*2] put out impressive torque while taking in less fuel and leaving behind fewer emissions. With either engine, smooth response comes on quickly and stays strong, for rewarding acceleration with refreshing efficiency.
Like every Mercedes-Benz, the R-Class is a showcase of safety innovation. PRE-SAFEĀ® is a breakthrough that can detect conditions suggesting a collision or rollover is about to occur, then adjust the front seat belts, and even close the windows and sunroof, all to better prepare the occupants in the moments before a collision. As pioneer in air bags in cars and SUVs, it should come as no surprise that the R-Class offers a class-leading suite of them. Eight standard air bags, including side curtain air bags in all three rows, provide 12-way protection. An advanced uni-body structure surrounds the cabin in a virtual fortress of protection. Ultra-high and high-strength steel are liberally used to provide strategic reinforcement, including eight triple-layer roof pillars. The front crumple zone is designed to help absorb impact energy on multiple levels. And the rear crumple zone is specifically engineered for the needs of a three-row vehicle.
For the Mercedes R-Class, today is the former kind of day.
